I'll be offering step-by-step instruction to perfect the foundation of an Ashtanga practice – the Primary Series! This course will provide you with an easy-to-follow road map, and it's all online! We'll go through each pose with an approach that makes the postures accessible to all levels.

The Comprehensive Online Training for the
Ashtanga Primary Series
Deepen your understanding of the Ashtanga Yoga Primary Series through this 6 week course. This interactive online in-depth study of the Primary Series will break down each pose while building up your confidence – in your practice, your teaching, and in yourself.
This course includes instructional videos of each posture of the Primary Series of Ashtanga. I will engage with you over interactive calls using Zoom to discuss the assigned videos and give you the opportunity to ask questions and discuss your practice. There will be workshop style practices and guided classes so that you can put skill in action. A private Facebook group will allow you to share videos of your practice for critique and feedback from me and to learn from each other's experiences. Students will be assigned small groups for accountability and peer mentorship.
This course counts for 30 Yoga Alliance Continuing Education Credits.

Discussion and Practice
This week will be an introduction to the Ashtanga Yoga system. We will discuss frequently asked questions about Ashtanga Yoga, including how Primary Series works and the effect that it has on the body and mind.
Primary Series is also called Yoga Chikitsa - which translates to Yoga Therapy. We'll explore the meaning behind that.
Practice and Q&A
We begin the journey into Ashtanga Yoga with the Surya Namasakaras, or sun salutations, and standing postures. These important postures set the foundation for everything else you will do in the Ashtanga system.
Refining, strengthening, and deliberating on these paramount postures will reinforce positive patterns in your practice and set you up for success down the road.

In the Ashtanga Yoga system we cultivate a sense of equilibrium in our bodies. Each pose has a counter pose, every action has an opposite action. Over time, with practice, we develop symmetry and balance.
Hips, Twists, and Mudras
Practice and Q&A
Gain a sense of balance, inner stability, proprioception and flexibility as you move through the Primary Series. This section of Primary moves the body through a variety of forward bends, twists and hip rotations.
Ashtanga Yoga trains your body slowly, preparing it step by step for increasingly complex movements.
Deep Core and Open Hips
Practice and Q&A
Primary Series develops both strength and openness, the two key elements to progressing through the Ashtanga Yoga system.
This week we will examine the challenging postures at the end of Primary Series - that require strength and grace to move through efficiently.
Backbends and Closing Postures
Discussion and Practice
Primary Series finishes with a backbend sequence. Through your Ashtanga journey you will revisit this backbend sequence again and again - so let's set a solid foundation for you to grow from.
And we would never leave out the closing postures - they tie it all together and let the practice settle.
All weekend classes will be 90-105 minutes.

Every week we meet for a yoga talk to cover the postures in the videos. We will also have workshop style trainings where we break down the asanas step by step. Modifications will be offered and props can be used. You will be offered feedback on your unique practice. In addition, there will be two group practices.
Pre-Recorded Tutorials and Instructional Videos
Every single posture of Primary Series, taught on multiple different body types, has been prerecorded in your asana library. In these videos tips and tricks to make postures sustainable and accessible will be taught to you. Access the videos any time, any where.

Hi, I'm Jen. The founder of Ashtanga Central, the global hub for Ashtanga Yoga. I'm also the creator of The Yoga Mentorship Program, Introduction To Ashtanga, and the hugely popular Pilates For Yogis. I've trained thousands of students across the globe.
I've been teaching Ashtanga yoga for 15 years. I had a thriving Mysore program in Washington, DC that I directed for over eight years. I taught and trained under Tim Miller at the Ashtanga Yoga Center in Carlsbad, CA.
I've practiced under the most senior teachers in Ashtanga Yoga, I've made multiple trips to India, and logged tens of thousands of hours practicing. And I am going to share all this knowledge that I have accumulated over the past twenty years with you in the Primary Series Interactive.
